I suppose you could wear almost any backpack, but one of these travel packs would probably be a bit more stylish.

Since no one should be walking down 5th Avenue wearing a sad looking backpack, try this Eagle Creek Explorer Trek pack. Eagle Creek is known for high quality travel gear that comes with a lifetime guarantee.

You’ll fit right in with the locals who take their dogs everywhere including grocery stores, boutiques and cabs. Of course, their dogs are wearing doggie-sized designer duds and jewelry nicer than anything you’ll ever own. Central Park is of course a must see and Jemmy’s Run in Union Square is THE place to pee and be peed on. Most hotels including Crowne Plaza, Embassy Suites, Westin and the oh-so glamorous Soho Grand will welcome your pets with open paws and complimentary doggie amenities.

Angelica Kitchen is in Manhattan at 300 East 12th St, between 1st & 2nd Ave. This restaurant is a favorite with people from all over NYC and with tourists because the food is outstanding. I’m not a vegetarian, but I let my vegan sister drag me here one time and I ordered the tempeh sandwich - it was outstanding.

Now I’ve been to Angelica Kitchen a number of times. It’s fairly expensive and they only take cash so come prepared. Some of the better meals I’ve had there include the chili and awesome cornbread. The hummus is delicious. I’ve never gotten one of the more dragon bowls, but these might be just the thing if you’re in the mood to go back to basics.

Their drink and desert selection is great too. Their creative fruit juices and teas are always wonderful and the deserts are as good as vegans can get - which means they are pretty good. However, if you’re planning to get some delicious yet horribly unhealthy dairy deserts you’ll need to go somewhere else.

There is a no cell phone policy but the restaurant is often crowded and noisy so it might not make much difference.

Many big spenders prefer Koi where you will need some money and reservations. (212) 921-3330 . The specials are usually interestingly creative.

40 W 40th St (Cross Street: 6th Avenue)
New York, NY 10018

Ise is not pricey and has very interesting omakase (let the chef choose). It can be hard to get a table so if you’re going around lunch time show up early (maybe 12:00).

58 W 56th St | Btwn 5th & 6th Ave.
56 Pine St | Btwn Pearl & William St.
151 E 49th St | Btwn Lexington & 3rd Ave.

Sushi Seki and Sushi of Gari, both more expensive, are very high quality and have interesting sushi. Gari is an alumnus of Ise and Seki is an alumnus of Gari.

Sushi Seki: 1143 1st Ave.
Sushi of Gari: 402 E. 78th St.

Many New Yorkers claim that Blue Ribbon Sushi is the best in the city. Its in the village and they have the freshest and best sushi you will ever have. Other New Yorkers are a bit suspicious - they agree that Blue Ribbon is excellent but it depends on when you go because if it is when they are really busy they figure you are a poser or a tourist who won’t know the difference and they do everything in a slipshod way. But if you go after midnight it is much better because they know thay have different kinds of customers then.

The Shake Shack in Madison Sq. Park (sometimes called Burger Shack) and the Burger Joint in the Le Parker Meridien are two great examples of truly outstanding burgers.

Burger Joint in Le Parker Meridian is probably better than Shake Shack. It is excellent but the biggest problem is the line during lunchtime. However in the late afternoon Burger Joint is pretty low stress. Shake Shack has great food, and the hot dogs are almost as good as the hamburgers. Some New Yorkers claim that serious health violations there have them a little bit concerned, but the place is still open and people are still eating the delicious burgers…
